conjunctions
A conjunction is a word that joins other words in a sentence.
Here are 3 basic examples:
1. and [na]
Mother and father -- umama nobaba

2. but [kodwa]
This works the same way as it does in English.
I want to shop, but I don't have money -- ndifuna ukuthenga kodwa andinamali
I want to shop, but I don't have money -- ndifuna ukuthenga kodwa andinamali
I want -- ndifuna
to -- uku shop/buy -- thenga but -- kodwa I don't have -- andina money -- imali |
3. because [kuba]
This also works the same way as it does in English.
I eat fruit because I want to be healthy -- nditya iziqhamo kuba ndifuna ukuphila
I eat fruit because I want to be healthy -- nditya iziqhamo kuba ndifuna ukuphila
I eat -- nditya
fruit -- iziqhamo because -- kuba I want -- ndifuna to be -- uku healthy -- phila |
